Knitting books on e-reader?

For some time I'm thinking to get me an e-reader. After a little research, it will probably be a KINDLE,
lots of people and friends are very happy with it.
Some other people recommending the Nook, because you could borrow books in e-format from the library. But I'm not  a library person, I always wanted to have the books I read and then decide, if I keep them or sell them at the 1/2-price-book store.
When we came over from Germany, I had all my books shipped to me and let me tell you, it was a lot.
Started reading books here (in English, which was in the beginning not easy) made me running out of space after a while. So twice a year now for  the past 3 years or so I pack a laundry basket with books and heading to the 1/2-price/book-store. Of course, there goes  a lot of money down the drain, which made me thinking: how about an e-reader? I know, I told everybody, that I like the feeling of a "real" book in my hands, which I will be missing with the gadget - but I think, it is time now to move on and order. I could store some new knitting-books, I always wanted to buy and then some. The only question remaining: with or without free Wi-Fi?
What do you think? Come on, help me out here and share your opinion, please. For what do I need the Wi-Fi, what would I do with it? Let's hear it.

Update: I ordered the KINDLE with Wi-Fi and a cover with light, arriving in my house probably on Friday, right in time for the weekend, so I can figure everything out and start downloading.
